In the world of wine, the International Wine & Spirits Competition and Decanter World Wine Awards are to winemakers what the Oscars are to the entertainment industry. Which is why the recent news of our four Silver medals from these two major international competitions, in quick succession, have us writing thank you speeches that go on way past the cue music. In our heads anyway.
We’ll spare you the long drawn out speeches. In short, we’re thrilled to announce the following awards:

Clos du Soleil Wines Win Gold & Silver at the National Wine Awards of Canada
For immediate Release:
Keremeos, BC (July 16, 2018)
Any weekend that starts with Red, White or Rosé and ends with Gold and Silver is a good one! We are particularly honoured to have been awarded Gold and Silver medals this past weekend by the WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada, widely recognized in the industry as one of the highest profile and most meaningful awards.
So, without any further ado, we give you our 2014 Signature Gold Medal winner, repeating last year’s Gold Medal for the 2013 Signature; and our 2016 Capella Silver Medal winner. In addition, our 2017 Pinot Blanc was awarded a Bronze medal. Of our Gold Medal 2014 Signature, reviewer Nadia Fournier gave it 91 points and had this to say: “Very fine example of Meritage developed in a spirit of elegance and balance, rather than power; harmonious woody, quality tannins, length worthy of mention. To drink between 2020 and 2023.”
Making our medals even more meaningful this year, is the fact that The National Wine Awards of Canada were bigger and better than ever in 2018, with 1,850 entries from 257 different wineries from seven different provinces.
Upon receiving news of the awards, Winemaker and Managing Director Michael Clark says, “We pride ourselves on the consistency in quality in our wines, vintage after vintage, and these awards prove that we can continue to make that claim. The fact that our Signature won Gold at the NWAC last year for the 2013 vintage, and then the 2014 vintage won Gold again this year, is a good indicator of consistency at the highest level of quality.”
Adding further proof to our insistence on consistently high quality, is the fact that these awards come hot on the heels of recent Silver Medals for both the 2014 Signature and 2016 Capella at the 2018 Decanter World Wine Awards, with Capella also recently returning with a Silver medal from the International Wine and Spirits Competition from London, UK.
To Clark, our continued recognition at awards ceremonies both in Canada and internationally, is a testament to the unique terroir where these grapes are grown. “We take terroir expression very seriously, and so to see our wines competing with the very best from around the world speaks to the special character of our Similkameen Valley appellation.”
Of course, awards mean very little if nobody is pouring our wines in to their glasses! We don’t do this for the medals; we do it because we love good wine and we love sharing it with you, and so, we continue to put all our passion and skill into our winemaking to ensure the very best wine in your glass.
All three winners are current vintages and are all available from our online store and at fine wine retail stores in your area.
About Clos du Soleil Winery
Clos du Soleil is an artisanal winery and estate vineyard in Keremeos, BC and is located on the Upper Bench of the southern Similkameen Valley in British Columbia, Canada. We produce ultra-premium quality wines, borrowing an aesthetic derived from the great wines of Bordeaux, but stamped with the flavours and aromas of our particular piece of rocky Similkameen land. Through traditional winemaking techniques, informed by research, but adhering to the philosophies of minimal-interventionist winemaking and biodynamic viticulture, we produce wines that are complex and classic, age-worthy and elegant.
About the National Wine Awards of Canada
The WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada (NWAC), the country’s largest competition of Canadian wines, is held annually in mid to late June. Each year, somewhere in Canadian wine country, co-founders Anthony Gismondi and David Lawrason assemble Canada’s leading wine writers, trade buyers and sommeliers to evaluate the current crop of 100 percent Canadian grown and made wines and ciders. In 2018 the Awards were held in Penticton, in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, where judging took place from June 20th to 24th.
